MODEL ITERATIONS/ TOPOLOGY CHANGES + POLYPAINT (Yejin)

BASE POLYPAINT in Zbrush

Yejin did some colouring to sculpted some more details to refine the mother character.

TEST RENDER IN REDSHIFT

Mother character is pretty much ready for final texturing and polish

colour experiment in Polypaint

The general consensus from the class and myself was that this design wasn't quite working for the tone of the film-- The model isn't really optimized for rigging considering the large mass at the back of the head.

Someone suggested that we go back to the earlier iteration of a more ambiguous design of the character seen here:

2D approach to the Memory/ dream sequences

concept by Yejin

We're going back to the original idea of illustrating the memory/dream sequences in 2D animation. We will bring more look tests the following week. The concept above is a glimpse of what it would look like.

These are some colour references/ explorations for the 2D animation

Blocked out the main environments/ scenes in the story

The plane (2d sequence)

- memories of Min leaving her home country

- loneliness, fear of change

- 'abduction' by her mom

Min's Room

- her personal space, a space she's adjusting to and making it her own

Kitchen

-Mom's space. Reminds her of her culture. Adorned with objects that bring her back

School

- social environment

- fear of being judged or standing out

Ext. home/ Neighborhood

- feeling like she's standing out in a neighborhood of the same houses.

LAYOUT/ANIMATIC

Next week is Reading break!

  • Paint colour keys to find a solid colour palette for the entire film. -Yejin

  • Start lookdev and texturing on mom and daughter

    • Xgen hair---Yejin

    • Clothing details---Yeji

    • Simulation tests---Yejin

    • Skin texturing---Yeji

  • Further lookdev on Alien

    • Try to find what works with the tone of the film without standing out too much that it feels out of place.

    • Stay away from ‘genrefying’ the film (making it look like a sci-fi genre for ex)

  • Story

    • Needs to be polished more in the end

    • Explore the memory vignettes and flashback shots ( remember these are meant to be efficient methods of telling a story, don’t make more work for yourself)

    • When story structure is more tied down, further development on environments.

    • Environment needs texturing and first look pass

  • Environment ----Yeji

    • School, bedroom, outdoor environment

  • 2d visdev (memory vignettes)---Yejin

    • How animated would these be?

    • What kind of look/feel are we going for
