this week:
- asset creation/ some design changes
- story exploration
- experimenting with 2d sequence and transitioning from 3d to 2d
Some weeks ago we received feedback about the lunch bag looking too fancy and last week there were some notes on the set design/ mise en scene.
I did feel the need to make some assets/ designs to have more Asian (Korean) influence and approached a prop designer to bring some new designs to apply to the existing model.
This was her first thumbnail exploration
Me and Yeji both found the middle iteration more appealing and proceeded with the following final concept:
** All 2D designs by Ashley Kusumoto
Yeji then used this concept art to paint the new textures. The prop designer also provided a pattern sheet of the flower we could use for texturing.
<more lighting test>
Tried to make it looks like early morning but not too yellowish/warm
Another idea we wanted to explore was the mother's transformation to an Alien. I approached a concept artist to explore some distortion effects, providing a mood board and some references.
Moodboard for the 'galaxy'
She first gave me multiple iteration of glitch effects
**Concept art by Grace Wong
Above are iterations that I found more appealing.
We also discussed some explorations with adding some effects onto the actual environment, with an overlay of galaxy-like images.
** Concept Art is all by Grace Wong.
This gave me the idea to visually explore how the environment might transition into the Galaxy Sequence that I imagined in my iteration of the 2d sequence.
Below are some possible
2nd iteration
Yeji's first comping test of 'glitch effect'
2nd pass
Mom's hair groom first pass is done, needs a little more tweaking with density multiplier.
I also started sculpting another side character, Anna
I'm just going to make some changes to the hair and clean up some features because she looks too old right now.
